The benefits of active travel on health are well known, people who walk and cycle regularly are fitter, live longer, feel better, and with the cost of fuel once more on the rise, they even save money too.

Mobility Week is the perfect occasion to encourage people to give sustainable travel a try.

In 2009 more than 200 million people across Europe took part in Mobility Week in 2,181 European towns and cities, with worldwide events held in countries including China, Columbia, Korea, India, Australia and the USA.

In Scotland the Getabout In Town Without my Car event in Newtonhill was the only road closure in Scotland this year we are going one better this time with two.

Participating towns also get the chance to win the coveted European Mobility Week Award presented in Brussels by the European Commissioner for the Environment.

Or see the official European Website www.mobilityweek.eu for more information on the week and this year's focus.
